[edit] Bio (According to Gale St. John)
Gale St. John was born in Toledo, Ohio in 1960 and has been a practicing psychic for over 20 years. She was raised with her mother and grandparents, who all claimed to have psychic ability. She made the decision that she wanted to find missing people and solve murder cases when she was 7 years old. She started doing this type of work when she was 15.
St. John is married and has a daughter. She is also a Christian and quotes several bible verses on her website[3].
[edit] Psychic work
St. John charges $250 for a half hour private phone reading [4]. In addition to her private readings, she teaches seminars and classes about how to make use of an individual's psychic powers[5].
She also sells home-made Spiritual Awakening CDs that will help you "Wake up and control your own psychic ability." [6] The CDs include three thirty minute private sessions with St. John and is $49.95. She states that her students have become successful in their own right; "Many of my students have gone on to do readings, as well as work on missing person cases."
[edit] The Bodyhunter
As part of her police work St. John is a member of a search and rescue team called "The Bodyhunter" [7]. The other members include Reginald Lewis, Travis Sanders and Brian Ladd.
Together they looked for Caylee Anthony's body use a technique they called "blind driving" where they drive until someone feels that they should stop[8]. St. John stated "We drive and go completely on feeling instinct, chasing down what we call a person signature."
St. John claimed during her interview with Jerry Pippin that she and her associates all take minimal information about a case (preferably only the name of the missing person) then write down their predictions and send them into a Yahoo!Group[9]. Then, when they read each other's writings "we're all like "[Gasps] I can't believe it, we all wrote almost exactly the same stuff." "
Brian Ladd, Travis Sanders, and Reggie Lewis all have their work in regard to the Haleigh Cummings case posted on St. John's official website. Not all of the answers are compatible. Here are some predictions that all of the psychics agree on:
- Money
Lewis - Money issues with family maybe between father and gr/parents
St. John - Money issues
Ladd - Over money-mom owes 4000.00 child support
- Friend or family member's involvement
Sanders - Person knew family or habits of family
St. John - Friend of family close to family
Ladd - Gr/parents involved
- Cousin Joe
Lewis - Divert feel with cousin Joe
Sanders - Diverting feel on cousin Joe
St. John - No draw to cousin Joe
Predictions that the psychics disagree on:
- Directions [No one indicates a starting location]
Lewis - Location-west to southwest
Sanders - Northern Fla.
St. John - Feels west
Ladd - Jacksonville in trailer [North from where Cummings disappeared]
- Timing
Lewis - Some type of closure early summer
Sanders - Some type of closure in early summer
Ladd - Found March 2nd [Haleigh was not found on the second]
- Abductor
Lewis - Child walk off on own
- Not planned
- Man 5’6 to 5’7
- Short hair blonde/brown [Lewis doesn't explain why he states that the child wandered off on her own then also gives the description]
Sanders - Person knew family or habits of family
- Girl friend [sic] not directly involved sucked into it
St. John - Friend of family close to family
- Family knows who involved
Brian - Gr/parents involved
- Numbers
St. John - See’s [sic] # 82
Ladd - See’s [sic] #29
Out of 45 total predictions made nine are specific enough to be corroborated with the other psychic's work. No prediction was shared by all four people.
[edit] Psychic Detective Work
St. John claims to work with the police on missing persons and homicide cases and to have found the remains of 30 people during her career as a psychic detective[10].
[edit] Caylee Anthony
St. John was hired by Cindy Anthony to help locate the body of her missing granddaughter, Caylee Anthony[11]. St. John previously predicted that Caylee was near a lake and surrounded by trees and wildflowers [12]. Caylee's body was discovered in water but was not near a lake or surrounded by wildflowers[13].
Using the "blind drive" technique The Bodyhunter team and two cadaver dogs searched several locations including the area where Caylee was ultimately found. They did not discover her body but instead St. John insisted that she was drawn to the area. She later stated "My reaction was that’s where we said that we felt something." [14] Afterward, St. John and her team continued searching in other locations. Caylee's body was found several months later.
[edit] Haleigh Cummings
St. John and her team are also looking into the disappearance of Haleigh Cummings. Each team member provided their own psychic predictions, which are posted on St. John's website [15]. Most of the statements are too vague to prove or disprove. As of April 2009 Haleigh Cummings has not been found.
- Gales [sic] feelings
- Feel of confusion
- Didn’t get feel of death at first not crossed over
- This statement cannot be wrong. If Haleigh is alive then her prediction that she hasn't crossed over is correct. If Haleigh is dead then St. John can claim that she was alive when she first disappeared and was only killed afterward.
- Friend of family close to family
- When a child is abducted they are most likely taken by someone that they know. This is basic police psychology.
- Felt shifting 1st night place to place
- St. John does not state the names, locations or details of any "places" that Haleigh might have been shifting to and from. This is also too vague to even provide information in regard to whether or not she was abducted or left the trailer on her own.
- Feels west
- Circle of deceit
- Topics unsaid
- Family knows who involved
- St. John does not state who these people are, how the family knows them or any other information that would be useful to the police.
- See’s # 82
- Players in case
- No draw to cousin Joe
- It remains to be seen if "cousin Joe" has any connection with the case[16].
- Something in air changes coming several more cases like this
- St. John doesn't qualify "more cases like this" and doesn't explain whether she is discussing a possible multiple offender or other children that disappear.
- No drugs involved
- There was never any mention of drugs in connection with the case.
- Family dramatics
- Haleigh's father was divorced and was living with his 17-year-old girlfriend. It's a given that her family had "dramatics". But St. John does not state what this had to do with the case.
- Money issues
- The current state of the economy has left almost everyone with money problems. Haleigh's family lives in a trailer, so it is apparent that they are not wealthy.
- No kiddie porn
- There was never any mention of child pornography in connection with the case.
[edit] Human remains detection dogs
Beacon Hell posted a blog that alleges St. John's cadaver dog is not properly trained and she is not properly trained as a handler[17]. Colleen Klocek, a HRD dog trainer, stated that neither Gale nor her dog Hilo passed the necessary classes in order to obtain a certification [18].
[edit] Accusations of charity fraud
Blogger Sean Krause of The Daily BS investigated St. John's charity Purebred Adoption League (official website now defunct). He stated that the IRS and the Better Business Bureau didn't list PAL as a charity and had no record of them[19] [20]. If this is true this means that people who donated to what they thought was a tax-deductible charity were giving the money directly to St. John and would be committing tax fraud themselves if they tried to claim the amount on their income taxes.
Krause also stated that St. John was being investigated for fraud and provided links for people who donated money to her to file complaints[21].
