Ear candling involves placing a hollow candle in a persons ear and lighting it. Practitioners claim that this creates a vacuum that draws out excess wax and "toxins".

Ear candling carries a number of health risks in the due to the risk of hot wax entering the ear. The waxy streaks that can be found on the inside of an ear candle which are pointed to as evidence of effectiveness can be reproduced by burning the candle with the non burning end being held in a glass of water.
